Content Knowledge

A teacher will comprehend and master their subject area and learning tools, while providing students with creative, knowledgeable, and entertaining activities to engage learners for their own thorough understanding of the content. This standard is important as teachers must have vast knowledge of their content to educate students. Additionally, teachers must be able to plan creative and engaging activities for students to desire to learn and retain the content. This standard can be demonstrated through visual vocabulary worksheets, interactive Quizlet study sets, and a personalized president’s booklet.

To engage students in the lessons, I will implement a visual vocabulary worksheet to help them learn and familiarize themselves with terminology for the unit. Students must write the definition in their own words and then draw a picture to assist them in remembering. These will be their notes to study from class and a simple way to recall what we have covered.

After completion, students will create their own Quizlet study set digital study set from their visual vocabulary chart. They will also upload pictures or their own drawings on Quizlet. This interactive resource allows students to quiz themselves, take practice tests, use online flashcards, and even study with friends. Moreover, it is very important to reinforce course content. Students can share their Quizlet with the class for a fun game time review activity.

Students will then create a Presidents Booklet on ten of the presidents (either past or recent) featuring a description of the person, lifetime achievements, and five important things done while in the office. It can be created online through Canva, Powerpoint, or Google Documents. I have provided all materials needed. Students must also add two images per page. They may choose whomever they wish and personalize the booklet to their desired learning style. This will allow for an in-depth understanding of various presidents.
